ALGIERS- The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohamed Abdelhafid Henni said, on Tuesday, in Algiers, that production in the main agricultural sectors recorded a significant increase during the current year.

Presentating his report to the APN Finance and Budget Committee as part of the 2023 law of finance debate, during a session chaired by Lakhdar Salmi, Chairman of the Committee, in the presence of the Minister of Relations with Parliament, Basma Azouar, the Minister said that production in the cereals sector reached 41 million quintals during the 2021/2022 agricultural season, an increase of 48% compared to the previous season.

Thus, the overall value of agricultural production during the current year amounts to approximately 4500 billion DA according to provisional statistics, against 3500 billion DA in 2021, i.e. an increase of 31%.

This production made it possible to cover national food needs with 75%, noted the minister.

Regarding the balance sheet of forest fires for the year 2022, the Minister reported 28,000 hectares of forest cover and fruit trees, in addition to wildlife losses, revealing that an envelope of 1.5 billion DA was dedicated to the compensation of disaster victims in 33 wilayas affected by the fires.
