October 15, 2020

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic Jean-Yves Le Drian will pay a two-day working visit to Algeria, Thursday and Friday, at the invitation of his counterpart, Sabri Boukadoum, said Wednesday a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“On this occasion, and in addition to the talks that the head of French diplomacy will have with his Algerian counterpart, he will be received in audience by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as well as by the Prime Minister, Mr. Abdelaziz Djerad,” the statement said.

According to the same source, “this visit, which is part of the regular consultations included in the political and economic agenda agreed upon between Algeria and France for the year 2020, will make it possible to take stock of the progress made on both sides in bilateral cooperation marked in recent months by the achievement of important deadlines such as the 6th session of the Algerian-French Joint Economic Committee, held in Algiers on 12 March 2020.

The visit will also be an opportunity for “an exchange of views on regional and international issues of common concern, including the situation in Western Sahara, the Malian file and the situation prevailing in the Sahel region, as well as the crisis in Libya, the settlement of which will be at the core of discussions between the two sides,” according to the communiqué.
