Exports of food products via south: No authorization has been granted

ALGIERS- Customs has stated that the Government has not granted any export authorization for large-scale subsidized food products via southern border crossings, said a statement from the Directorate General of Customs.

Following the request for intervention by members of the council of the Nation concerning the immediate cessation of authorized export operations of food products of large consumption via the border posts of the south, “the administration of the customs affirms that the government currently has not granted any export authorization for these goods, “the statement said.

“The customs administration, in accordance with the law and the instructions of the highest authorities of the country, is committed to fighting against all forms of smuggling to protect the national economy,” the source added.

Five members of the Southern Region’s National Council sent a letter to Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaïd Salah, Deputy Minister of National Defense, calling for an intervention to ban the export of these products through border crossings.

“What happens at Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Timiaouine and In Guezzam border posts is dangerous because it is a gangrene of the national economy,” the source said.
