CAASA to hold first aviation industry symposium

The Commercial Aviation Association of Southern Africa (CAASA) is set to host its first annual industry symposium on 22 May.

It said the symposium, to be held at the ExecuJet Hangar at Lanseria International Airport, will focus on encouraging and nurturing growth in the commercial aviation sector.

The event will unpack two distinct themes; namely ‘Growing into Africa’ and ‘Sharing the Airspace’. “Approximately 250 of South Africa’s leading aviation professionals will hear first-hand from industry experts about South Africa’s growth potential, airport development plans, the potential of the aviation resellers market, integration of new aerospace technology, the UAV [unmanned aerial vehicle] and RPAS [remotely piloted aircraft systems] markets, as well as ICAO [International Civil Aviation Organization] standards and the current SACAA [South African Civil Aviation Authority] regulations. In addition, the well-known Dr Roelof Botha, CAASA’s Economic Advisor will present the CAASA Aviation Activity Index (CAAI) and provide a Global Economic Overview,” CAASA said.

A dedicated aviation-focused exhibition will run alongside the event showcasing the latest products, services, aircraft and technologies of the aviation sector. Exhibiting companies include Pratt and Whitney, Safomar Aviation, UAT Universal Aviation Training, Pyxis Aero Aviation Group, CAMASA and Comet. In addition to the exhibition Safomar Aviation will be showcasing the Enstrom Helicopter and Denel Aeronautics will bring the Southern African Regional Aircraft (SARA).

CAASA is one of the four partners, together with AMD, ARMSCOR and the SANDF, that hosts the biannual Africa Aerospace and Defence Exhibition (AAD) and is the 2018 lead partner.
